On the outermost edge of the universe there sits a line. A line made of a rainbow like energy emitting a radioactive glow onwards and outwards as the line flys ever more into the depths of Oblivion. In our minds, that of simple three dimensional creatures the line appears as a sort of two dimensional shape. A platform that is ever moving as the universe expands.
At the center of our universe the singular point of origin lies for all life and everything contained within the universe. The point is contested and everyone has their own theory which is different to the actual events that transpired. Though no one was actually there when the universe was written, making all these theories meaningless. Nonetheless, if you believe that the universe was created at that single point as a God particle exploded outwards with infinite energy or a God like being spoke and created everything from that point that is your choice. The constants of the universe care not for your interpretation as they are constants in an uncaring universe. Not to be confused with the caring forces of nature of course. Though again this is all speculation, forces and what not.
Really what we have to discuss today is simple, the line on the edge of the ever expanding universe. Most lines are drawn to separate two or more things. In this instance, the line is still being drawn. Whenever you have something and you take away that something, what are you left with? Nothing. Nothing is what makes up the emptiness in our universe, empty space; nothing. However within our universe there is never truly nothing. There must always be something filling the container of the universe as a whole. Just because we as people cannot perceive that something there must always be something within the universe. This is a universal law.
So what’s that got to do with our line? What has this to do with that ever moving ever expanding line that contains the finite infinite amounts of something in our universe? Too put it quite simply and too make you think, I ask this question; what is beyond that universal line that is stretching forever outwards at the speed of light? The answer is quite simple; nothing.
Now if it is hard for you to interpret the literal absence of almost everything that is alright. It isn’t necessarily an idea most are familiar with, so for simplicity we refer to what’s beyond the universal borderline as Oblivion. Oblivion is essentially the space beyond the farthest reaches of the stars where there is almost absolutely nothing.
Now the smarter cookies will note the key word of “almost”, this may be cause for concern or it may not. In Oblivion, the space beyond this universe where there can really truly be nothing there can actually be something. Oblivion is the empty space in the much bigger container if you will. Let’s say our universe sits inside a box of infinite size, all the space our universe doesn’t take up is Oblivion. Just because the universe doesn’t take up the whole box doesn’t mean there can’t be things outside of the universe also in the box. There are many theories about what else is floating around in the box with our universe as well.
Is there other universes? Is there debris floating around? Is that where peoples souls go? Not all these questions are we sure of. This is what we are sure of; the laws of physics and the universe only exist within our universe. Therefore they do not apply within Oblivion. Oblivion contains the remnants of fractured dreams and past pieces of older universes. Finally, Oblivion contains entities; often frozen in time, save for one: the Oblivion King.
The Oblivion King is the entity that controls Oblivion, he is the foil to God and his universe. The Oblivion King does not have any quarrel with God or the Universe, he simply exists as a primordial force ruling over all of Oblivion. Many have plunger into Oblivion hoping to escape time, escape the confines of this universe and become eternal. Their asylum is seldom granted, they must speak with the Oblivion King and convince him to allow them too stay. He appears different to everyone, primarily he appears to humans as a larger than life human skeleton wearing a brilliant rusty golden crown with gems made of what looks like miniature universes, a long flowing purple cape made of star light dotted across the night sky, a throne made from the simplest of stone, and blade known as the Ever Light. All points in Oblivion are said to be illuminated in some way by the Ever Light.
The Oblivion King often stands on the universal borderline to the universe and stares off into the ever expanding universe wishing he could touch and see it. The Oblivion King has a duty to Oblivion, and obligation by which he is bound. He can’t enter and join the universe, he can only carefully observe it. Often the Oblivion King speaks, but seldom are his words heard by the universe. Only in few instances have his words been heard. His solitude has driven him to create a cycle, he finds a champion within the universe. The Oblivion King speaks out in hopes they will hear. Many have heard, and many have tried to make it to the Oblivion King on the edge of the universe. He wishes for his time to be up, and to be replaced by the next Oblivion king.
Legend says that the Oblivion King will grant the first to make it to him on the edge of the universe that has been deemed worthy the throne of Oblivion. In exchange, an individual must be reborn into the next universe when the universal cycle restarts and make it there once again.
“Once, an heir. Twice, a king.”
Only once has a being become an heir to the Oblivion throne; and in that instant a bargain was struck of unfathomable imagining.
