The hard-of-hearing grandpa thought his granddaughter said she wanted to be a stripper. The grandpa sat there silently wondering where he went wrong. Where did he go wrong raising his daughter who would have a daughter that would think that was ok. What did he forget to teach his daughter? He thought of all the Christian teachings, he thought he had done right by God. He tried not to tear up thinking about it, but then he remembered that God loved all people. He remembered that he was supposed to be accepting of people. He remembered that as a child of God he was supposed to love all of God’s creations even though he didn’t always agree with that. He still felt a little bit of shame, naturally because he was human. But he knew that in his heart of hearts everything would be ok. Jesus had died for their sins, and that his granddaughter choosing a career that wasn’t the best was already forgiven so he shouldn’t dwell on it. But why? Why would she do that? He thought about how much he had provided for his family, and how much his daughter and her husband had provided. He knew his granddaughter had a stable enough income and a soon to be fiancé which everyone approved of. He sat in disbelief, was this an act of teenage rebellion that only showed up in her mid twenties because she had no rebellious phase earlier in life? Was this a way at getting back at him or her mother? Was there some disagreement he didn’t know about? He had spent so much time with her that he thought he knew her. But did he really? His mind was racing. He couldn’t stop wondering why should would do that, or why should would say that while they were working on the truck. He hadn’t told her that when they finished fixing it he was going to give it to her, maybe he should say something sooner? He kept coming up with question after question. He just sat there and stared at his granddaughter for a time trying to find the right words to say back. He was never a quiet man, but this mentioning of a radical career change that would shake the family dynamic caught him so off guard that he didn’t know what to do. He remembered his faith, he would love her no matter what. Even if he didn’t agree with her decisions, he would love her no matter what she did. He would even support her if she needed help, hell he didn’t know how much pole dancing classes cost but he knew that he would be ok with footing the bill. Well not ok with, but he would do it. Hoping she would get into it and realize it wasn’t for her. Finally he was about to speak.
“Megan, I will support you with whatever you want to-”
“Could you please pass the wire strippers Grandpa? Are you ok, I asked you that a few minutes ago and your just went silent.”
Oh. She said wire strippers. Oh thank God!
“Sure thing pumpkin! Sorry!” He said as he handed her the wire strippers.
